As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we at the Levin Center have been reflecting on how we can contribute to this historic milestone. It was the Continental Congress, after all, that debated, adopted, and signed the Declaration – a powerful reminder of Congress’s central role as the first branch of government.
On January 12, we’re excited to launch Congress 250, a year-long campaign celebrating the strength, achievements, and democratic importance of Congress. As part of this effort, we’ll be sharing Friday Facts – weekly insights highlighting Congress’s history, impact, and enduring role in our system of government. From the vision of the delegates who gathered in 1776 to landmark legislative actions across the centuries, our goal is to spotlight why an effective Congress matters.
